Sustainable Actions

We’d all like to think that when its comes to our actions, we are doing our best to use sustainable practices. Truth be told, I always thought that I was a very responsible person; that I was committed to not harming the environment. There is a cool feature on Yousustain.com that calculates these efforts to show just how effectual (or not) your efforts are. These are my results:

According to the results, I’m not doing so bad. It says that I am doing more than the average person. But I was not very happy with my results. I realized as I went down the list of actions, that the biggest points I got were from buying energy efficient appliances. What bothers me is that, this was an easy option for me. I renovated my kitchen and bought a new washer and dryer, and thankfully the majority of the options available were energy efficient. I find it disheartening that I am not doing more if it means it is inconvenient for me. For example, my husband and I drive in to work everyday. We rarely use public transportation, and we’ve never even considered buying a hybrid vehicle.

I just need to reconsider how much I am already doing, and what more can be done.
